How to read these numbers

Bitcoin-to-gold ratio

The ratio tells you how many troy ounces of gold one Bitcoin is worth. It takes currencies out of the picture and shows whether Bitcoin has become more or less expensive against gold — regardless of what the euro or the dollar happen to be doing.

Spot price and premium

The spot price is the exchange price for one troy ounce. Physical metal costs an additional premium, which covers minting, distribution and insurance. Small units carry the highest premium in percentage terms — a 1-gram bar sits at around 5%, a kilo bar under 2%.

Gold-silver ratio

This shows how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold costs. Historically it has moved between roughly 40 and 90. Some investors read high values as a sign that silver is relatively cheap — that is emphatically not a guarantee.
